ISEL aims at producing knowledge on how to improve software development practice based on past experience and evidences elaborated from data recorded in software repositories and how the new generation of languages models impacts the software development cycle, specially on requirements, implementation and testing.

- The thesis "Code Readability Assessment and Improvement: Human and Automated Perspectives" is finalist at the Doctoral and Master Theses Competition at CBSoft'2026.
- The paper "JADE: A VSCode Plugin for Static Analysis-Guided AI-Assisted Refactoring" has been accepted at the Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering (SBES'2026) - Tool Track, with Ruan Neres and Carlos Dantas.
- ISEL members have won three awards at CBSoft'2025.
1) Awarded paper "How Readable Is LLM-Generated Code Snippets? A Comparison of ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Gemini" at XIII Workshop on Software Visualization, Evolution e Maintenance (VEM'2025), with Giovanna Fernandes and Carlos Dantas.
2) Awarded paper "Do LLMs Suggest Consistent Identifiers? An Empirical Study on GitHub Pull Requests" at IV Workshop on Intelligent Software Engineering with Julyanara Silva and Carlos Dantas (ISE'2025)
